About Us

Our Mission
ICOD is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to empowering the public and civil society organizations by helping them develop, build their capacities and fulfill their missions. ICOD collaborates with local and international aid and development organizations that also aim to optimize the organizational performance and effectiveness of the public and civil sectors and maximize their social impact.

Our Vision
We envision an efficient and interactive society where the civil, public and private sectors work in synergy to achieve social and economic development.  The public and civil society organizations play a major role not only in implementing effective programs but through having a decisive role in reflecting the real needs and shaping proper plans and policies for their communities. Organizations network and intercommunicate with one another for the better good of the society. Individuals are not passive but active players in the assessment, learning and action processes that involve them and their families' lives.

Our Values:

> Human Capital

Every person is born with a particular set of innate abilities, skills, and qualities which are valuable and can be augmented by appropriate investment.

> Promoting Local Participation, Ownership and Capacity
We believe that the most successful responses to development challenges are built upon local leadership, commitment and responsibility, and supported by knowledge, learning and shared resources. Local NGOs and CSOs should be particularly well placed to facilitate community responses, and to effectively bridge the needs and capacities of people and communities towards development. Given their key role in catalyzing and supporting community responses, local NGOs and CSOs must have increased access to resources, relevant information and skills.

 > Making a Difference
We believe that resources should be directed where they will make the most difference to catalyze social change and build a responsible and capable civil society. This requires a relevant and focused support and involvement of all concerned communities, NGOs and CSOs.

> Self-determination and Stewardship
All civil society and non-governmental organizations have a right to independently determine their own priorities and policies, and a responsibility to maintain accountability, transparency and effective stewardship of resources contributed by state or private funds. ICOD is committed to building capacities, acting effectively and ethically, avoiding conflicts, remaining impartial and fair in approach, and maintaining a particular responsibility to different community actors.

> Gender Balance
We strive to increased participation of women in society and we believe that women can effectively contribute to mitigating conflicts.

> Empowerment
We believe that building the capacities of individuals and groups should be accompanied by creating the proper environment, authority and delegation. We believe that people should be allowed to grow, be proactive and take initiatives.

> Accountability and Transparency
As the civil society should make the best of the trust given to the sector, all organizations should be accountable for their acts. Moreover, organizations’ work should be documented in a comprehensive way so lessons could be learned and best practices can be established.

> Unified Approach
We believe that organizations can get more strength through a unified approach, networking and boosting teamwork.

> Solidarity
Social change can only be achieved when solidarity is manifested through both human and organizational development and interaction.

> Right Based Approach
We believe that rights are universal legal guarantees protecting individuals and groups against actions which interfere with fundamental freedoms and human dignity. These rights should be inalienable, interconnected and should reflect the values and ethics thought to enhance human society and its existence.
